VILHELM LAURITZEN ARCHITECTS DESIGNS FLEXIBLE HOMES IN WOOD

2017-08-18

Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, together with Adserballe & Knudsen as overall contractor, engineering firm Holmsgaard and Thing Brandt Landskab, have created a new building concept, CLT Flex.

CLT Flex, in its simplicity, is designed to create functional, flexible, modern housing at a reasonable price. CLT Flex takes as its name references, solid wood elements in cross-laminated timber – CLT.

All building models are prepared as 3D models and are sent to a production company, which then produces and supplies the finished housing elements.

The Investor, Boligselskabet Sjælland, plans to construct at least 200 homes in wood in the coming years. They have therefore entered into a framework agreement with the team for the next 4 years.

The first project will be located in Skademosen in Trekroner, with a total of 44 housing units divided into two buildings on two floors. The homes will vary in size between 30 and 115 m2, appealing to a wide audience.

- With the system we are able to create many different types of housing, thus accommodating a wide range of future residents. The homes can be designed as very small one-storey homes, to large homes in 2.5 plan for the family, says associate partner in Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects Michael Schytt-Poulsen.

He is complemented by partner Torsten Stephensen:

By grouping and displacing the homes, we can create an architecture that forms a good environment and intimate setting - an image we often miss in new buildings, he explains.

The first CLT Flex homes are expected to be completed in the autumn of 2018.
